Pearl Choker - Watermeadow Lane Jewellery

Pearl Stringing Service

I learnt about stringing pearls when I attended a jewellery school in Singapore called JDMIS (Jewellery Design & Management International School). Since then stringing or hand-knotting pearls has been a love of mine and this is a service I am happy to offer within my business; Watermeadow Lane Jewellery. Alongside pearl stringing, I also offer a jewellery redesign and a commission service, which means I can redesign the pearls into a different style pearl necklace, bracelet or earrings that will suit you. This also means, I can redesign them into separate pieces of jewellery that you can gift to other family members or friends. You only need one single pearl to make a stunning pearl necklace or bracelet!

How it works & cost

I will arrange an appointment for you to come and see me at my home in Melbourne, Derbyshire. We will discuss if it is a straight forward restringing for your pearls or if any further repairs are needed for example a new clasp, or if you would like them re-designed. I will then give you a quote. A normal pearl necklace restringing with knots between the pearls is £80 for a 16-18 inch necklace. If you are happy to proceed with the quote I will require a 50% non-refundable deposit to cover some of the cost for my time and the materials. A final payment will be requested to be paid BEFORE the pearls are collected and you are happy with the end results. Photos are sent to you before the final payment is requested to confirm you are happy.
I have lots of fantastic reviews on my website, Google and Facebook for you to read if have any concerns. I absolutely do my best to give a great service and only want my customers to be happy!

What I do with the pearls?

I remove the old string from the pearls cutting between each pearl where the knots sit. Each pearl will then be individually cleaned and kept in the order they came off the string so as not to disrupt the original design. I will then use a new thread (I use a silk bead cord) to restring the pearls which involves knotting in between each pearl. Please see my blog on pearls to understand why this is done. Within this process the clasp will also be cleaned. Once finished, your pearls will be looking brand new again ready to be worn.

When should you restring pearls?

Pearls should be restrung if the thread between the pearls has become stretched or the thread has started to discolour. The knots between each pearl are there to protect the pearls from dirt and wear and tear. Pearls worn on a regular basis should be restrung every year or so to keep them looking their best, according to the British Pearl Association.
