Pearl Restringing service

I learnt how to restring pearls when I attended a jewellery school in Singapore called JDMIS (Jewellery Design & Management International School). Since then hand-knotting freshwater pearls has been a love of mine and this is a service I am happy to offer within my business; Watermeadow Lane Jewellery.

How it works & cost

Please contact me if this is a service you require, details are at the bottom of the page. I will arrange an appointment for you to come and see me at my home in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

We will discuss if it is a straight forward restringing for your pearls or if any further repairs are needed for example a new clasp.

I will then give you a quote. A normal restring with knots between the pearls is £80 for a 16-18 inch necklace. If you are happy to proceed with the quote I will require a 50% non-refundable deposit to cover some of the cost for my time and the materials. A final payment will be requested to be paid BEFORE the pearls are collected and you are happy with the end results. Photos are sent to you before the final payment is requested.

What I do with the pearls?

I remove the old string from the pearls cutting between each pearl where the knots sit. Each pearl will then be individually cleaned and kept in the order they came off the string so as not to disrupt the original design. I will then use a new thread (I use a silk bead cord) to restring the pearls which involves knotting inbetween each pearl. Please see my blog on pearls to understand why this is done. Withinn this process the clasp will also be cleaned. Once finished, your pearls will be looking brand new again ready to be worn.

When should you restring your pearls?

Pearls should be restrung if the thread between the pearls has become stretched or the thread has started to discolour. The knots between each pearl are there to protect the pearls from dirt and wear and tear.

Jewellery repair service

I offer a small jewellery repair service. Please contact me if this is a service you require, details are at the bottom of the page. I will arrange an appointment for you to come and see me at my home in Melbourne, Derbyshire.

My skills are in making jewellery using thread and wire so I am unable to solder pieces of jewellery back together or adjust ring sizes. If however you need a new clasp, a new chain or the thread of a necklace or bracalet has become undone then I can certainly help.

Please contact me to arrange an appointment and I will be able to offer a quote once the repair is discussed.

I charge a minimum of £15 plus the cost of any materials for one repair, but I will always offer a quote before I carry out the work. Depending on the cost of the repair, I may require a 50% non-refundable deposit and then a final payment BEFORE the collection of the repaired jewellery.

Photos of repairs will be taken and shared with you and discussions will be had throughout the process and the final result.

If I am unable to carry out the repair there will be no charge.
